Instructor Bio – Senpai Rasika Blenheim Shinkyokushinkai Dojo

My journey in Karate began in 1994 in Sri Lanka, training under Sensei Oswald Karunarathne. In 1998, following my yellow belt grading, I had the privilege of joining the main Kyokushin dojo under Shihan Nanda Siriwardane, where my understanding of traditional full contact Karate deepened.

In 2001 and 2003, I was honoured to be selected to compete in national Kyokushin full contact tournaments—valuable experiences that shaped my approach to Karate both as a martial artist and future instructor.

In 2006, I began training in Ashihara Karate under Sensei Nimal Wijerathe, earning my black belt under his guidance. I continued to train with him until his passing in 2012. During this period, I trained regularly with Kingsly, Sri Lanka’s five-time national full contact champion, and hosted joint sessions at my home.

In 2017, I rejoined the International Karate Organisation (IKO) and resumed Kyokushin training with my children under Sensei Ajith Goonathilake, who would later go on to join WKO Shinkyokushinkai Sri Lanka in 2025. My Karate journey continued with renewed focus until our move to New Zealand.

Now settled in Blenheim, I am proud to continue this journey as a member of WKO Shinkyokushinkai New Zealand, committed to teaching traditional full contact Karate to the next generation. Through this new dojo, I look forward to building strong spirit, respectful discipline, and community through Karate.

Join me for training in Blenheim at: Senior Citizens Hall, Saturdays 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm. 172 High street, Blenheim.
